Walking
While playing Assassin's Creed Shadows I'm constantly struck by all of the walking in the game. Not just from the main characters, but from all the NPCs as well. Nearly everyone is walking. When you're not on a horse, you're on your feet.
This is what life was like up until the last 150, or so, years. Maybe it wasn't always as beautiful as in that video, but walking was how humans got around.
As an American living in a smaller town driving is all I know, instead of walking we drive everywhere. I mean, our grocery store is a little over a ¼ mile away, we drive.
I've always enjoyed walking, but it's always for pleasure or exercise. A walk during lunch to get away from the desk, a hike in a nearby park, a backpacking trip. Walking is not a utility.
Now I'm listening to a podcast where the guest is literally talking about walking as medicine and how he came to some of that by living in Japan for 25 years. About how they live their lives, how they see the world.

It makes me wonder about incorporating more walking in my life, not just for pleasure and exercise, but maybe for utility as well...
Anyway, that's what I'm thinking about today.
